Seminar Information
Students will present a seminar on various HCI
related topics. Undergraduate students will conduct the seminar in groups of 2
students and graduate students will present the seminar independently. All
seminars will be a total of 30 minutes long.
Undergraduate
Groups
- 2 students per group
- 30 minutes
- I will provide 1-2 papers as a
starting point, but each group will find 3-4 more academic papers that
relate to their topic for the seminar.
- Submit a handout of slides at the
beginning of class
- Focus more on
lecture/presentation/activity. See the Seminar Rubric for a
description of how the seminar will be graded.
- Lecture (topic presentation) (~15-20
minutes)
- Small activity (in class
activity) (~10-15 minutes)
Graduate
Students
- individual
- 30 minutes
- I will provide 1-2 papers as a
starting point, but each group will find 8-10 more academic papers that
relate to their topic for the seminar.
- Submit a handout of slides at the
beginning of class
- One week later, submit a 4-5 page report (research paper on your topic). There
is a Template available for the research paper based on the CHI extended
abstracts format.
- You need to include the Plagiarism
Statement on the front of your written report

of how the seminar will be graded.

Deliverables
Seminar Givers:
- Week before the seminar:
- By 8:00pm (Monday night if
presenting on Tuesday or Wednesday night if presenting on Thursday) -
email me your Seminar Plan)
- Lecture Topics
- Topic 1
- Topic 2, etc.
- Activity – short paragraph
describing what this is
- References (these should be ~80%
complete)
- After class - meet with me for
feedback on your Seminar Plan
- Night before your seminar by
8:00pm (undergrad/graduates):
- Send me your slides for your
presentation/seminar (donŐt forget to include all references)
- These will posted on the class
website
- Day of seminar
- Bring a hard copy of your slides
to class

Evaluation of group members (I will provide the sheet)
- 1 week after seminar (graduates)
- Seminar research report (at
beginning of class)
Remainder of class:
- On the days you are NOT presenting,
you need to send me 2 questions per selected papers (indicated with a **
on the schedule) the night before the seminar/lecture/tutorial (by 8:00pm)
by email
- Please use the following subject

- Include your questions in the
email (no attachments please!)
- Also everyone will be evaluating
the seminars (makes up about 10% of the students mark) – I will hand
out the forms that you can use for evaluating. These are due at the end of
class
